Although the modern Japanese martial arts have become very popular in the West, limited knowledge is available on the old fighting traditions that form the foundation of these sports. Few reliable works have been published in western languages and groups that train in these old schools are often small and little known in the rest of the budo world.
Koryu.nl wants to be a platform for everyone who is interested in the martial history of Japan. Although at some points (e.g. training addresses) emphasis may be on the Netherlands and Belgium, other pages will be of interest to all; the bibliography contains a comprehensive list of books available in the English language and the links page will point to international sites on budo and related items also.
But Koryu.nl is also a project in the making. In order to get these pages as complete as possible, help is needed from koryu enthusiasts in the field. All information on seminars, dojos and other news will be highly appreciated. Furthermore, articles on specific koryu or on background items can be posted here, as long as the contents is of high enough a standard. There is room for discussion of relevant topics and for the sharing of training insights, as long as the non-commercial character of the site is guaranteed.
